Weekly Update // Pastor Durwood
One Last Time
WOW! That’s the word I used to begin my sermon this on Sunday morning. And the feeling is still the same.
How, or why, is it that when we are having a great time the minutes, hours, days, weeks and months seem to move at an accelerated pace. I still remember watching the clock tick, tick, tick slowly as I waited for school days to end. It still seems like yesterday we were making the decision to come serve among you and now we have returned to our home in Georgia. WOW.
I shared a poem written by Minnie Louise Haskins in worship on Sunday. King George VI shared it in his Christmas Radio address in 1939. From the first time I heard it until today, I am reminded that the journey we take in this life never goes backwards and it never stands still. Try as I might have, my kids grew up and flew into a life all their own. Even our grandkids will not slow down! The clock ticks, the calendar changes, and our lives move forward.
I leave with you Ms. Haskin’s words as Asbury takes its next step, knowing that the sure and certain faith that has marched this faith community forward will continue under the leadership of Revs. Emily and John. Open your lives and hearts to them the same you did to my family!
I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: GIVE ME A LIGHT THAT I MAY TREAD SAFELY INTO THE UNKNOWN! And he replied: GO OUT INTO THE DARKNESS AND PUT YOUR HAND IN THE HAND OF GOD. THAT SHALL BE TO YOU BETTER THAN THE LIGHT AND SAFER THAN A KNOW WAY!

PS - I told you that Asbury would remain a part of our hearts and lives long after we drove away. Well it will. A retired clergy person must choose a church to remain connected to in retirement. We chose Asbury and could not be any happier.
